Frequently asked questions

Waffle is team chat with a built in AI member, made by Friskly AB in Sweden. It combines channels, direct messages, threads, voice, and search with Waffle AI, a teammate you mention like a person. Three in four knowledge workers now use AI at work (Microsoft and LinkedIn, 2024), and Waffle puts that help inside the conversation. There is a Free plan with no credit card, and paid plans start at 12 USD per user per month.

Bringing chat and the AI together also cuts the hunt for context: the average interaction worker spends nearly 20 percent of the workweek looking for internal information or tracking down colleagues (McKinsey Global Institute, 2012). Below are the questions teams ask most, grouped by topic. Each answer stands on its own, so you can skip to the section you need.

About Waffle

What is Waffle?
Waffle is team chat with a built in AI member. You get channels, direct messages, threads, voice, and search, the parts every team expects, plus Waffle AI, a real teammate you mention like a person. It is made for work teams and aims to replace both your chat app and the separate AI subscriptions sitting next to it.
Who is Waffle for?
Waffle is built for work teams: startups, product and engineering groups, agencies, and any small to mid sized company that lives in a chat tool all day. If you already pay for a chat app and one or more AI subscriptions on the side, Waffle folds both jobs into one place where the AI is a member of the conversation.
What makes Waffle different from Slack and Discord?
The AI is a member of the chat, not a bolt on. In Waffle you mention Waffle AI like any teammate and it reads files, writes documents, reads your code, and files tickets in your tools. Slack and Discord are strong chat apps, but neither ships a built in work AI teammate that does agentic work for you.
Who makes Waffle?
Waffle is made by Friskly AB, a company based in Sweden. The marketing site lives at trywaffle.app and the app runs at web.trywaffle.app. Waffle is built with a privacy minded, GDPR aware posture: the marketing site uses first party, cookieless analytics with no third party trackers and no consent banner.
Is Waffle free?
Yes. Waffle has a Free plan that includes team chat and Waffle AI, with no credit card required. Paid plans, Pro and Business, add more monthly Waffle AI usage, larger uploads, and business features, and start with a 14 day free trial. Enterprise is available on request.

Waffle AI

What is Waffle AI?
Waffle AI is a real member of your team chat. You mention it like any teammate, and its reply lands once, finished, with any files attached, rather than typing out slowly token by token. It reads what you share, writes real documents, reads your code, and connects to your tools, all inside the conversation.
What can Waffle AI do?
Waffle AI reads attachments and answers with specifics, writes real files and attaches them, reads your GitHub repositories, and connects to tools like Linear and Atlassian through MCP connectors. It keeps a per team knowledge document it reads everywhere, offers catch me up and ask summaries, and can be turned on or off with its own persona per channel.
Can Waffle AI write documents?
Yes. Waffle AI writes real files and attaches them to its reply: PDF, Word (DOCX), PowerPoint (PPTX), Excel (XLSX), CSV, and plain text, markdown, or HTML. Ask for a deck, a report, or a spreadsheet and the finished file comes back in the message, ready to send onward to a client, a board, or a teammate.
Can Waffle AI read my GitHub code?
Yes, when an admin connects a repository. Waffle AI can browse directories, read files, search code, and read pull requests to answer with real context. It can also open a draft pull request, which an admin approves before it can merge, so the AI never ships code on its own.
Can Waffle AI use my tools like Linear and Jira?
Yes, through MCP connectors. Waffle AI connects to Linear, Atlassian (Jira and Confluence), and any custom MCP server. Admins choose which connectors each channel may use, and set each connector to read only or read and write. So the AI can, for example, file a Jira ticket from a support thread when you allow it.
Does Waffle AI type its answers out slowly?
No. Waffle AI does not stream its answer token by token into the channel. It works through the request, then posts the reply once, complete, with any generated files already attached. You see a short status while it works, and then a single finished message, the way a teammate would send you a done piece of work.
Can I turn Waffle AI off in a channel?
Yes. Admins turn Waffle AI on or off per channel, and can give a channel its own persona. Admins also scope which connectors each channel may use: all, none, or a hand picked set. This keeps the AI present where it helps and absent where you want a channel to stay human only.

Pricing and plans

How much does Waffle cost?
Waffle has a Free plan at no cost. Pro starts at 12 USD per user per month billed annually, or 15 USD billed monthly. Business starts at 20 USD per user per month billed annually, or 25 USD billed monthly. Enterprise is available on request. Buyers are charged in their local currency at checkout.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The Free plan includes team chat and Waffle AI, with no credit card required. It comes with up to 50 Waffle AI runs per workspace each month. It is a real, usable plan for small teams getting started, not a trial that expires, and you can upgrade whenever you outgrow it.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Paid plans, Pro and Business, include a 14 day free trial. The Free plan needs no trial and no credit card, so you can start using Waffle and Waffle AI right away, then move to a paid plan when you want more monthly AI usage, larger uploads, and business features.
How is Waffle billed?
Paid plans are billed per seat: you pay for each member on the plan, per month, with annual billing offered at a lower rate than monthly. The workspace owner is the payer. Buyers are charged in their local currency at checkout, so you see the price and the charge in your own currency.
What are AI usage limits?
Every plan includes a monthly pool of Waffle AI usage: up to 50 runs per workspace on Free, 500 per seat on Pro, and 1,500 per seat on Business. Bigger jobs draw more from the pool than quick answers do, so the run count is a ceiling rather than a fixed quota. Usage is pooled across the workspace, so a larger team gets a larger shared pool. Enterprise is available on request. A run is one Waffle AI turn, such as a mention that Waffle AI answers, and how much of the pool it draws depends on how much work it does.

Security and privacy

Is Waffle secure?
Waffle is built with a security minded posture. It uses role based access control with owner and admin roles, private channels, and membership checked, id fenced upload routes with no public static file mounts. Connector tokens are encrypted at rest. Password reset and email verification are supported. Friskly AB builds Waffle with a GDPR aware approach.
How are connector tokens stored?
Connector tokens are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM, and they are never shown again after you set them up. No response or log returns a token in plain text. Tool output from a connector is treated as untrusted input and never reaches the AI system prompt, keeping third party data separated from instructions.
Does the website use tracking cookies?
No. The marketing site uses first party, cookieless analytics with no third party trackers and no consent banner. Raw IP address and user agent are used transiently at the moment of a request and then discarded, so only aggregate rows are stored. This keeps the measurement privacy minded and GDPR aware.
Where is my data?
Waffle is made by Friskly AB, a company based in Sweden, and is built with a GDPR aware posture. Access to your workspace data is governed by role based access control, and uploads are served only through membership checked, id fenced routes rather than public static mounts, so files are not exposed by an open URL.

Apps and getting started

Does Waffle have desktop apps?
Yes. Waffle has Alpha desktop apps for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Windows builds update in the app. AppImage and deb updates are wired but still being verified on installed Linux systems. Unsigned macOS builds need a fresh download. You also get the full web app in the browser, with the same features in both places.
Does Waffle work on mobile?
Yes. Waffle has a real mobile web layout with touch gestures, not a shrunken desktop view. It includes a bottom tab bar, a swipe out channel drawer, long press action sheets, swipe to reply, and a keyboard aware composer. Voice controls live in the drawer, so you can join a voice channel from your phone.
How do I get started?
Create a team, which takes about two minutes and needs no credit card on the Free plan. Waffle AI is ready the moment your team exists. You pick a template and a first channel during onboarding, and a short getting started checklist walks you through inviting people and trying Waffle AI.
Can I use voice and screen share?
Yes. Waffle has one click voice channels with speaking rings on avatars, screen share, and per person playback volume. You get push to talk, mute and deafen, and join and leave chimes. Voice works on desktop and mobile, where the controls live in the channel drawer, so anyone on the team can hop in.

Give your team its extra member.

Waffle is in early access. Creating a team takes about two minutes, and Waffle AI is ready the moment you do.
